When I was growing up, I hated summer. I lived in Southern California, it was hot almost all the time. It felt like the sun had a personal vendetta against me, and that it was beating down on me only trying to burn me. Everyday with the sun in the sky was a mid day for me. When we had cloudy days was when I could finally feel like myself. These days, I have a better well-rounded appreciation for all the seasons. Summer is beautiful because of its heat. Because it gives something the other seasons don't. It gives a sense of freedom and excitement, of hedonism and the allowance to indulge. Whether it's beach days, vacations, going out late at night, or having ice cream after every meal to cool off, summer somehow makes us appreciate things.
